Stewart Transportation Appears in Nashville Business Journal
“A different path”
Entrepreneur finds niche in combining events, buses
For those who think with the mind of an entrepreneur, its easy to understand how corporate culture and logistical processes can be inefficient and frustrating.
Eddie Stewart, president of Stewart Transportation Solutions, spent most of his early career learning this side of himself while working for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.
I was never really good at working for someone else, and that was the signal for me, Stewart says. … Getting from Point A to Point B in a corporate setting when corporate wants it done their way and I think another way is better, well, it causes all sorts of complications.

Caring for the Community
Every year STS finds a charity that needs a little help financially. This year we decided to do it a little different with some good old fashion, hands-on work. After careful consideration, the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville, TN was chosen. Everyone met bright and early the morning of December 19th to cook breakfast for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Afterward, STS was given a full tour of the entire facility which houses up to 60 families a night. These are families with ill children receiving inpatient or outpatient services at area hospitals that live too far away to travel back and forth within one day. They are asked to pay only $25 per night but are never turned away if they cannot.
STS employees and staff also came bearing gifts for siblings of sick children or much needed supplies used by the House. They were thrilled to receive a new DVD player, gas cards, laundry baskets, puzzles, hats & gloves, games, shower curtains, stuffed animals and restaurant gift cards. STS also made a generous donation to the House to use as needed.
It was a humbling experience and one we plan to repeat next Christmas and possibly another time during 2009.
Stewart Transportation Wins Microsoft’s “Above and Beyond” Award!
“STS provided transportation services for two of our largest conferences in Boston. A city of roads, derived from winding cow paths, and nationally renowned traffic problems, was the first challenge for Stewart, which they achieved with the now, expected success. Add to the challenging urban infrastructure, a union strike of bus drivers (timed unknowingly) to coincide with Teched, these are tough unions, they weren’t budging, and the logistical horrors were just beginning. STS was responsible for transporting 1,000s of attendees (safely) to and from the hotels and convention center for a week, all while fending off angry picketers.
At the second event, one month later, the same transportation challenges, but add to this the sudden collapse of a concrete slab within the Ted Williams Tunnel. The tunnel was closed permanently at the time, and the traffic backlash was chaotic. STS within hours, had to redesign all the transportation routes to be ready for the oncoming attendees. Each day was a new challenge; however STS successfully made it through all these obstacles, and became heroes to the attendees, event planners and Microsoft. Bring it on!”
