we’ve come a long way!

Thirty years ago STS started as a one-man operation and now we are over 20 people strong, providing transportation solutions for meetings and events across the country. Take a look at where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Eddie originally named the company Stewart and Associates because he wasn’t sure what the business would ultimately become. The building he is standing in front of in the photo is still where our office is today.

STS was open for a whole year before Eddie had his first transportation program – the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Orlando, FL. The experience and lessons he learned that week would permanently shape the way STS operates today.

As STS began to grow, Eddie hired Karen to help with the administrative tasks associated with running a business. Although she started on a part-time basis, Eddie quickly realized she had a knack for managing people and developing relationships with clients. In 2012, Karen became the President of STS.

When Microsoft (yes, that Fortune 50 company!) came calling, Eddie knew it would change the game. TechEd was the first of many Microsoft events. The team worked six 18 hour days to pull it off, but it proved that Eddie’s small operation could do big things.

With some of our biggest clients headquartered on the West Coast, it was only a matter of time before we set up shop. One of our independent contractors at the time, Kym Thomas, became our first employee in our Seattle office. We’re lucky that Kym is still an STS employee!

TechEd Boston was one of the most challenging events we have managed to date. The local bus driver union decided to go on strike the day before the event began, putting our ability to provide transportation in jeopardy. Together, STS and our vendor successfully replaced all union drivers and the conference began on time. Since then, we’ve continued to meet last-minute challenges head on.

The Recession changed how many businesses operated, and we were no exception. We made difficult decisions, changed our sales strategy and adapted to the changes in the meetings and events industry.

The opportunity to provide transportation for the Starbucks Leadership Conference was an opportunity of a lifetime. This event presented us with some new challenges, but nothing a cup of coffee and a little STS problem-solving couldn’t handle. Our hard work paid off and we’re delighted to call them a client to this day.

We know that without the STS team, none of this would be possible. In 2015, Eddie made the decision to celebrate our people and our 25th anniversary with a 5 day retreat in Marco Island, Florida. Our annual retreat has become an event we look forward to every year.

30 years later, STS has gone from a one-man, transportation operation to a multi-million dollar business, with 21 employees. The lessons we’ve learned along the way have shaped who we are today and where we are going. We are excited for what the future has in store!

A word from our CEO, Eddie Stewart

“It’s hard for me to believe that STS is celebrating 30 years in business. I am incredibly proud of where we’ve come from and where we are today. Most importantly, I am grateful for the people who have been a part of our success. On behalf of everyone at STS, thank you.”
